T ypes of Soil
Soil can be divided into three main types
based on the size, feel (texture) and colour
of constituent particles. These are sandy,
clayey and loamy.
Sandy soil is largely made up of sand which Sand
is smaller in size as compared to gravel.
The sand particles have gaps between them
which are filled with air.
Sandy soils are light, dry and well-aerated.
These soils are very good for growing
coconut trees, carrots, beetroot and many Clay
herbs.
Clayey soil is made up of very fine particles
which are very small in size. There is very
little space between these particles and
therefore this soil holds more water. It is
quite sticky and heavy. This kind of soil is
very good for the growth of cereal crops.
Loam
Loamy soil is best for growing plants as it
is a mixture of sand, clay and humus. It has
a sufficient amount of humus, nutrients
and holds adequate amount of water. It is very fertile.
