• Make a table in which you will write the name of the objects and
                                        what you observe about it.

Observation : You will observe the following.
                                     • The transparent objects like clear glass, plastic cover will not form

                                        any shadow on the wall.
                                     • The translucent objects like wax paper, tissue paper and frosted glass

form light or pale shadow on the wall.
                                     • Opaque objects like wood, bag and book will form a dark shadow on
                                        the wall. Shadow

                                          Torch Torch
                                                  Glass Board

This activity helps us understand about the followings things:

           1. The transparent objects allow light to pass through them, therefore, they do not

               form any shadows.

           2. The translucent objects do not allow light to pass through them completely and
block the light partially, therefore, they form pale or light shadows.

           3. The opaque objects block light, therefore, they form dark shadows.

          What is a Shadow?

A shadow is a dark shape formed by a
translucent or an opaque object due to
blocking of the light falling on it from a
          source of light.

Following are the things necessary for the formation of a shadow.

           1. A light source like sun, tube light or bulb. Shadow
                                                                                    Source Book
           2. An object whose shadow is to be formed.

           3. A surface on which the shadow is to be formed.
