T ranslucent Objects

The objects through which light passes
partially or cannot pass completely are
called translucent objects. We cannot see
clearly through them. Materials like tissue

paper, waxed paper, butter paper, frosted
glass are some examples of translucent
objects.

O paque Objects

The objects through which light cannot

pass are called opaque objects. They
block the light. We cannot see through
them. Objects like wood, foil, cloth, metal,
stone, wall, book, bag and human beings

are opaque objects.

S hadows

When we place an object in front of a source of light like the sun, a table lamp, etc., the
shadow of that object is formed.

Activity 11.2

Aim : Identifying which objects form shadows.

Materials Required: A torch, some transparent, translucent and opaque objects.

Procedure : • In a dark room, place each object one by one in front of a wall and
project a light from a torch on the object.

• Notice whether it forms a shadow or not.
